Review : Lovely machine with poor … no make that very poor Wi-Fi
Some back ground: over thirty years developing software and hardware, experience with Windows 8 on six computers including two Hp towers, Toshiba laptop and upgraded Acer W500 tablet. I tried the new Acer W510 and sent it back.
The Envy X2 looks and feels lovely. The screen and keyboard are good. The fly in the ointment is an almost unusable Wi-Fi, keyboard docking errors and issues with the installed Windows 8 recovery option.
After charging and updating, I closed the Envy went to another room and when I opened it I was greeted with a message to the effect the pad did not match the dock and wanted me to re-flash the dock (EC version of Pad and Dock do not match). Twice now I have had to re-flash the dock to use it with the tablet. It seems OK now but makes me very nervous.
Wi-Fi is poor … very poor and documented by others on the HP forum. In most locations, I get between 1/10 to 3/4 the download speed seen when using all other PCs. When next to my…
